Air Force Academy To Begin Releasing Cadets
The U.S. Air Force Academy will begin an "orderly dismissal" of cadets, the school announced. First class cadets will remain.

COLORADO SPRINGS — The Air Force Academy will begin dismissing cadets amid concerns over the spread of the new coronavirus, the school announced Friday. The academy made the decision after consulting with medical professionals, sister service academies and civic leaders, the school said. The school, which is based in Colorado Springs, has also closed to visitors.
In a letter to the campus community, Air Force Academy Superintendent Jay Silveria said the school was unable "to execute social distancing over 4,000 cadets on campus."
"After much deliberation and discussion, we have made the conservative decision to begin an orderly dismissal [of] cadet candidates at the prep school and four, three and two degrees. We will keep the first class cadets here," Silveria's letter said in part. "The goal of this action is to maximize the chances of graduating our senior class on time for our Air and Space Forces while ensuring the best possible care for the entire base populace."
