Dog Rescued From Pueblo Sewer Plant

PUEBLO, CO -- A stray dog was pulled out of the turgid waters of a Pueblo sewer plant Monday, Pueblo West Fire Department reported. Emergency workers pulled the muck-covered pup from an aeration pond at the waste water treatment plant in west Pueblo.

Plant employees were working in a different aeration pond, when the heard "a yelp or a barking sound," said Pueblo West FD PIO Brad Davidson. They searched and found the female lab mix, "sort of balancing on a culvert," out over the water, Davidson said. Employees estimated the dog had been there for at least and hour and a half.

"Our guys used a ladder and a catch pole, they didn’t quite have to get into the water themselves," Davidson said. The dog "came up the ladder itself, with encouragement," Davidson said.

"Once we brought her up on top, we took firehose with water on a low setting, obviously, and rinsed the dog off really carefully," Davidson said.

The dog was "really exhausted," Davidson said. She had collar with tags and the animal control department was going to try to find her owners, he said.
