Full Closure Of Paseo Road And Constitution Avenue Intersection For Bridge Maintenance, Trail Improvements Begins On May 27

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo – Beginning Thursday, May 27 through late August, the intersection of Constitution Avenue and Paseo Road will close to all traffic to facilitate bridge maintenance work and improvements to a section of the Rock Island Trail. Detours will be in place and travelers are encouraged to avoid the area. All work is weather and resource dependent.

Bridge maintenance work will consist of replacing an antiquated corrugated metal pipe with a box culvert under Paseo Road to better accommodate heavy rains during storm events. It is also part of an ongoing effort to replace corrugated metal stormwater pipes to prevent pipe failures in the future.

Bridge maintenance includes:

  • Removal of the corrugated metal pipe
  • Installation of a box culvert across Paseo Road
  • Repaving of Paseo Road across Constitution Avenue

In conjunction with the box culvert replacement, safety improvements will be made to the crossing of Rock Island Trail at Paseo Road, including providing a pedestrian refuge island and narrowing the crossing distance across Paseo Road.

The bridge maintenance project is funded by the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority. Improvements to the Rock Island Trail are funded by Bike Program. The improved trail crossing is funded through the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority’s On-Street Bikeway Improvements program.
