South Gap I-25 Expansion: CDOT To Host Public Meetings

CDOT and the Federal Highway Administration will accept public comments on the proposed I-25 South Gap project until May 29.

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO -- The Colorado Department of Transportation will host public meetings to comment on a plan for the I-25 South Gap project this week. Along with the Federal Highway Administration, CDOT has released the I-25 South Gap: Monument to Castle Rock Environmental Assessment.

The $350 million project is on track to begin construction summer 2018, pending available funding, the agency said.

CDOT will present the Preferred Alternative for the I-25 South Gap Project, findings of the EA, and solicit public comment at two public hearings in Castle Rock and Colorado Springs this week:

· Monday, May 14 5:30 - 7:30 P.M. Event Center, Douglas County Fairgrounds 500 Fairgrounds Drive, Castle Rock

· Wednesday, May 16 5:30 - 7:30 P.M. Liberty High School 8720 Scarborough Drive, Colorado Springs

I-25 Proposed South Gap Project via CDOT

CDOT proposes to expand I-25 between Monument and Castle Rock with the following improvements:

  • Adding a new tolled express lane in each direction
  • Widening shoulders
  • Replacing outdated infrastructure and addressing design deficiencies of the aging roadway
  • Adding wildlife underpasses
  • Modernizing the facility with improved drainage, lighting, communications, power, and signage.

"All improvements are planned within CDOT’s right-of-way, and no property acquisition is anticipated," the agency said.

The EA is available for public review on the project website i25gap.codot.gov or direct link to Environmental Assessment

The 30-day Environmental Assessment review period will close on May 29, 2018.
