Know A Pueblo Girl Leader? Free Teen Fellowship Returns

10 week fellowship for 25 girls 13-18 provides opportunity to learn history and possibilities.

From The State of CO.: Pueblo area girls ages 13 to 18 are invited to participate in the Bridging Borders Teen Girl Fellowship at El Pueblo History Museum and Pueblo City-County Library District for spring 2018. The program is sponsored by El Pueblo History Museum, Pueblo City-County Library District, Colorado State University-Pueblo, and Pueblo County Department of Social Services. The fellowship gives local teen girls the opportunity to foster a stronger sense of history and a sense of place that are the building blocks to a healthy sense of self.

Bridging Borders is a ten-week fellowship designed specifically for teenage girls in Pueblo County. The project enables participating teens to reconnect with the stories, knowledge and practices of women who helped to build the Pueblo community. With hands-on workshops taught by regional scholars, the project will nurture a sense of place and a sense of history that form the roots of strong self-identity. Themes for the ten-week program will include possibilities, legacy, story, tradition, resources, and history.
Bridging Borders Teen Girl Fellowship was started in 2014 with the belief that teens who know where they come from also have a better idea for where they are going. The project was launched with a grant from the American Association of University Women. Classes will run from 2 to 5 pm on Friday afternoons from February 23 to March 4 at El Pueblo History Museum and the Rawlings Library. There is space for up to 25 girls and there is no cost to participants. Applications are due Friday, February 9. For an application or with questions, email Dawn DiPrince at dawn.diprince@state.co.us or Tamara Trujillo at tamara.trujillo@state.co.us. Applications can also be submitted online at goo.gl/ZevW9Y.
