Public Invited To Participate In Creating CO Springs Art Plan
The city has begun the process of creating its first public art master plan.
From City of Colorado Springs: To guide future public art activities and address its current and future art collection, the City has begun the process of creating its first public art master plan. (A plan for the development of a portion of the city that contains proposed land uses, a generalized transportation system, and the relationship of the area included in the plan to surrounding property.)
One of the first steps in this process is collecting input from residents to better understand attitudes and aspirations for a public art program in Colorado Springs.
An online survey is currently available for residents to provide feedback at coloradosprings.granicusideas.com/surveys/publicartcos-community-questionnaire (link is external). Additionally, a number of interviews, focus groups and events to encourage discussion and input will be held in the next few months to collect feedback.

“The creation of a public art master plan is something that’s been on our radar for a number of years, and we’re excited it’s underway,” said Matt Mayberry, cultural services division manager. “We look forward to working with the community to envision the future of public art in our city.”
The public process is expected to last through the summer and into fall 2019. In November, the process will culminate in a citywide plan for the future of public art.

This plan is an action item from the city’s new comprehensive plan, PlanCOS, which calls for the City to, “complete, update and implement public art plans and to consider arts and culture in other city plans.” PlanCOS was heavily influenced by diverse public input from all quadrants of the city.
