1 in 8 Colorodoans Suffer from Infertility
The emotional and financial impact is often suffered in silence

Colorado’s fertility rate ranked among the lowest among the Western US according to the CDC. It is easy to believe if you have already had children or have no plans to that this is not a mental health issue that you need to care about. But with 1 in 8 Coloradoans struggling today with infertility, the impact on mental health is staggering.
- 8%-28% of infertile couples report symptoms of clinically significant anxiety.
- 15%-54% of couples suffer from major depression.
- Couples that are unable to conceive after 1 year of trying are 3 times as likely to divorce.
As mental health practitioners, we at Alleviant Health Centers of Denver know that Colorado was ranked 43rd out of 50 states for mental health because of the prevalence of mental illness and the lower rates of access to care. We made the decision to try to help our community by providing weekly educational content because it might be the only help some people will get. And while we try to write articles that will be useful to a wide audience, this week’s topic was so heartbreaking that it was difficult to write about, let alone film. It is only with Sarah’s insistence that we are publishing her interviews to help our community who may be silently suffering with infertility.
We are proud to be part of the Denver community. As we create more content, please let us know what mental health topics interest you by commenting below. And keep an eye out for our future online event series about Parenting ADHD Kids. Follow us on Facebook to stay in the know!
