Colorado Coronavirus Update: 840 New Cases Reported

Here are the latest coronavirus numbers in Colorado. Around half of all new cases are variants, public health officials said.

Daily coronavirus case numbers in Colorado have surged over the past month, state public health officials said.

Between Saturday afternoon and Sunday afternoon, 840 new cases of the coronavirus were reported in Colorado.

As of Sunday, 523,309 cases of the coronavirus have been reported in the state among more than 2,957,000 people who have been tested since the outbreak began, health officials confirmed. Around 28,638 people have been hospitalized.

At least half of all new cases are variants, public health officials said.

  • Deaths among cases: 6,357
  • Deaths due to COVID-19: 6,508

Colorado reached a milestone in its battle against the coronavirus — more than 2 million residents are now fully vaccinated, state public health data shows. Out of 4.7 million Coloradans who are eligible to receive the vaccine, more than 2.6 million have received one dose, state public health data shows.

But despite the progress, high case rates continue. Around 36 percent of the state's critical care ventilators were in use as of Sunday, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

Around 9 percent of Colorado hospitals reported anticipating staff shortages over the next week, and 7 percent of facilities reported anticipating ICU bed shortages.
