Delays On I-70 Expansion In Denver Could Top 9 Months: Report
The newest project delay is mostly due to drawn out discussions with Union Pacific Railroad over a bridge design, according to reports.
DENVER, CO — Denver area commuters will have to wait a bit longer to see the completion of the Interstate 70 expansion. According to reports, the project is now expected to be completed nine months behind schedule.
The most recent project update was announced to bondholders, who were told to expect a three-month delay due to drawn out discussions with Union Pacific Railroad over a bridge design, the Denver Post reported. This is in addition to a six-month delay approved by the Colorado Department of Transportation when it reshuffled project deadlines.
The I-70 project is set to reconstruct a portion of I-70 between Interstate 25 and Chambers Road and add a tolled express lane in each direction of that 10-mile stretch. The project is now expected to be completed by December 2022. Finishing touches may potentially stretch into early 2023.
