Denver Among Top Cities Where Millennials Are Moving: Report

Analysts looked at the latest Census Bureau data to find out which U.S. cities are drawing the most millennials. Here's how Denver fared.

DENVER, CO — Denver is the second-most popular city in the nation where millennials are moving, according to a new report. In its fourth annual study, SmartAsset analyzed the most recently available Census Bureau data (2018) on migration patterns of people between the ages of 25 and 39.

In 2018, nearly 17,800 millennials moved to Denver from a different state, according to the report. With around 11,531 millennials moving out of Denver to a different state, there was a net migration of about 6,241 people.

Aurora also ranks among the top 25 cities where millennials are moving, with a net migration of 2,147 millennials to the city, SmartAsset reported.

Out of all 50 states, Colorado ranks as the third-most popular state where millennials are moving.

One Colorado city, however, bucks the statewide trend — Boulder ranks sixth among the top cities that millennials are leaving. In 2018, about 1,178 millennials moved into Boulder from a different state, while roughly 4,460 millennials moved out of the city to a different state, resulting in a net loss of 3,282 millennials, according to the report.
