Denver Motor Vehicle Offices Reopen For In-Person Transactions From June 29

DENVER – Denver Motor Vehicle (DMV) will resume in-person services at all branch locations on Monday, June 29, 2020 for regular hours of 8am-4:30pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and 8:30am-4:30pm on Wednesdays.

Customers will notice physical and process changes implemented to protect both customers and staff from potential COVID-19 exposure including:

• Glass dividers at all customer-facing windows
• Physical distancing cues to help customers observe social distancing
• Increased cleaning frequency for high traffic areas and at each facility (twice daily)
• Hand sanitizer for staff and clients, face masks for all staff and for clients who forget their mask, and other protective measures

Lobby areas must stay at a safe capacity, so DMV staff will use a text messaging system to text clients when it is their time to enter the building. People are asked to bring a cell phone or mobile device with them in order to receive these notifications and to allow efficient service to all customers.

In addition, drop boxes have been installed at all DMV branch locations. Clients who have their paperwork prepared and are paying by check can drop their information off at the drop box and will receive their new tags or stickers within 3-4 days.

As the DMV reopens to in-person transactions, extremely high customer volumes are anticipated. Most title and registration transactions can be completed online at denvergov.org/dmv or by mail. Customers who can utilize online, mail, drop box, and phone options for their DMV transactions are strongly encouraged to continue to do so. New tags or stickers will be mailed in approximately 3-4 business days.

The following are examples of DMV transactions that must be completed in person:

• Assigned VIN Processes
• Suspense Title Transactions
• Tiny Home Title Establishment
• Trust Title Establishment and
• Most Title Transfers

As a reminder, Denver is providing a grace period for expired tags through the end of July. Denver Police Department and Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Right of Way Enforcement officers will not be issuing citations for expired tags during this time.
