Gov. Polis Clarifies CDC Guidance: What To Know

The governor is reminding Coloradans that the new CDC guidance for removing masks only approves certain activities.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued new guidelines Monday for people who are vaccinated against COVID-19, but Colorado public health officials are making sure residents don't misinterpret the guidance and put people's lives at risk.

People who are fully vaccinated can socialize indoors with other people who are vaccinated without wearing masks or staying at least 6 feet away from each other, the CDC said.

Gov. Jared Polis reminded Coloradans on Tuesday that the new guidance doesn't apply to gatherings in public.

“We’ve made tremendous progress, Colorado, but until everyone who wants the vaccine can get it, we must all continue to protect ourselves and others from this virus," Polis said. "Mask wearing and social distancing are still critical.”

Those who are fully vaccinated can also visit unvaccinated people who are low risk — grandparents can now visit their grandchildren if everyone in the household is low risk.

People still need to wear masks and adhere to social distancing guidelines when visiting with unvaccinated people from multiple other households, Polis said.

As of Tuesday, 74 percent of Coloradans ages 70 and older had been vaccinated, 59 percent of all Coloradans aged 65 to 69 had been vaccinated, and 90 percent of Colorado’s preK-12th grade educators and licensed child care workers had been vaccinated, public health officials said.
