Whether you are brand new to the city or newly exploring after a long year at home, Denver has something exciting for everyone who’s looking for a little adventure. Below are five ongoing events and worthwhile destinations close to downtown that will help bring some much-needed fun to summer 2021. Most of these activities are free, but those that require an entrance fee also offer students a discount.
1. Friday Night BAZAAR
When & Where: Every Friday through Aug. 27, 2021 4–9 p.m., 2424 Larimer St.

Crafts, food trucks, and music brighten up north Larimer Street at this free outdoor night market in Denver’s RiNo neighborhood that’s only a short walk from campus.
2. Black Love Mural Festival
When & Where: Every weekend through Aug. 2, 2021, Civic Center Park
Arising out of last summer’s social justice movement, Black Love Mural Festival returns to Civic Center Park. On Sunday afternoons, you can watch as artists create their powerful statements on Black identity.
3. City Park Jazz
When & Where: Every Sunday through Aug. 8, 2021, 6–8 p.m., City Park
Music lovers can enjoy free, live concerts at the pavilion in City Park. Pack a picnic and arrive early to claim a good spot.
4. Denver Botanic Gardens
When & Where: Every day from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m., 1007 York St. — $11 tickets with student ID, but you must purchase in advance.
Even if you lack a green thumb or the space and light to grow anything, you can still enjoy a walk through the well-curated beauty of nature at the Denver Botanic Gardens. It’s a perfect morning or evening outing that’s worth the price of admission.
5. Denver Art Museum
When & Where: Every day from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., 100 W 14th Ave. — $8 tickets with student ID, or free for 18 and younger.
From Van Gogh to high fashion, the Denver Art Museum always has something beautiful and inspiring. If you want to save the cost of a ticket, visit on a day that’s free for everyone. Upcoming free days in 2021 include: Saturday, June 26; Saturday, Aug. 21; and Sunday, Oct. 24.
BONUS: Meow Wolf Denver
When & Where: Opening fall 2021 at 1338 1st St.
Though you can’t visit just yet, very soon it will only be a quick walk from campus to experience the indescribable strangeness of Meow Wolf, right here in Denver. In fact, many talented CU Denver students have been hard at work to help bring this creative space to life.
