Westbound I-70 Reopens At I-25 After Police Chase, Investigation

The westbound lanes of I-70 have reopened after a police chase and investigation.

DENVER, CO — The westbound lanes of Interstate 70 reopened Thursday at Interstate 25 after police surrounded an armed carjacking suspect in the area, authorities said. Police cars blocked the westbound lanes for more than five hours.

A carjacker stole a man's vehicle in Strasburg, and a deputy spotted the car on I-70, according to the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office. The stolen vehicle accelerated to speeds over 100 mph and led deputies on a chase into metro Denver, authorities said. The vehicle finally stopped on I-70 near Washington.

Deputies and Denver police fired pepper balls and bean bag ammunition at the stolen vehicle in an attempt to get the suspect to come out, authorities said.
