World Cup 2026: Denver May Be One Of 10 Host Cities

USA, Canada and Mexico will co-host 80 World Cup games, with 60 played in U.S. cities, FIFA announced Wednesday.

DENVER, CO –Even as Colorado politicians debate the value of hosting the Olympics, it looks as though Denver may be hosting another international sporting event: The 2026 World Cup.

Denver is among the list of 10 potential host cities for the 2026 competition, which will be co-sponsored by the U.S., Canada and Mexico, FIFA announced Wednesday.

The U.S. will host 60 games in 10 cities according to Pro Soccer Talk. Among those in the running to host are Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Cincinnati, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York/New Jersey, Orlando, San Francisco/San Jose, Seattle, Philadelphia and Washington D.C.

This is the first time the World Cup will be held in North America since 1994, when the competition was held in the U.S. only.

Canada and Mexico will host 20 of the competition's 80 matches. Each has named three host cities: In Mexico, matches will be played in Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara. Canadian cities Toronto, Montreal and Edmonton will host.

FIFA will expand the number of teams from 32 to 48 nations by that time, the organization announced.

The 68th FIFA Congress is meeting in Russia to make decisions on the 2026 games.
