30-Car Snow-Snarled Wreck On C-470 Stops Golden Traffic For Hours
Multiple crashes on slippery 470 highway near Golden blocked traffic for four hours during rush hour after a snowstorm.

GOLDEN, CO -- A quick-moving snow storm made for slippery roads and poor visibility on westbound C-470 at Alameda Avenue near the 6th Avenue exit Thursday evening, causing at least 30 cars to slip and crash during rush hour. The highway was completely closed for several hours, and even emergency responder vehicles were slipping and sliding, CDOT reported.
C-470 westbound reopened around 7:15 p.m., according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
The first wreck was reported around 3:15 p.m., and then multiple smaller crashes took place as cars spun out in the slippery road.

A band of heavy snow over northern sections of Denver Metro continued through evening, the National Weather Service said.
"Snowfall rates to 1-inch per hour will result in slick road conditions this evening," the agency tweeted.

Visibility in Golden was the worst, CDOT said.
A Jefferson County sheriff's deputy cruiser was involved in one of the crashes, according to Channel 9. The person that hit the cruiser was injured and had to be taken to a local hospital, the station reported.
I-70 westbound also had a crash at mile marker 249 and was closed Thursday for four hours, re-opening at 7:15 p.m., CDOT said.
