79 Vehicle Break-Ins So Far In July, Jeffco Sheriff Warns
Many vehicles are being left unlocked in Jefferson County, and thieves are taking advantage.
JEFFERSON COUNTY, CO — There were a total of 79 vehicle break-ins between July 1 and July 24 in the South Precinct, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. Most of the break-ins happened to people who left their vehicles unlocked or parked inside open, unlocked garages, the sheriff's office said.
The rate break-ins has increased over the past two weeks, the office said.
"The area between S Kipling Pkwy to S Wadsworth Blvd and W Bowles Ave to W Chatfield Ave has been the most affected and most have occurred between midnight and 6 a.m.," the sheriff's office said in an alert. "During these crimes of opportunity everything from purses, wallets, cash, up to a gun and a vehicle have been stolen."
