Driver Dies After Car Plunges Into Clear Creek Canyon

Rescuers pulled the vehicle from the creek on Saturday, authorities said.

GOLDEN, CO — A man died after a car plunged down Clear Creek Canyon into the water Sunday. U.S. 6 from Golden to Colorado 119 was closed for several hours while the Arvada Fire Department's dive team worked to recover the victim and the car.

The crash was reported at about 3 p.m. at mile marker 276 on U.S. 6, and a swift water rescue operation was underway soon after.

Crews used a ladder truck to remove the vehicle from the water.

The rescue crew was able to recover the man's body after he floated down Clear Creek to Golden, authorities said. No other people were found in the vehicle or the creek.
