GOLDEN, CO — The Golden-based Boston Market has closed 45 stores nationwide as part of a "multi-faceted transformation plan." The chain closed six restaurants on June 30, and 39 on July 7.

More than 400 Boston Market locations remain open across the United States.

In a letter obtained by Nation's Restaurant News, CEO Frances Allen said the closures were necessary after store underperformance. He said the shuttered locations were an "unfortunate, but necessary decision," as the current structure was not sustainable.
