Golden Bike Library Takes BikeShare In New Direction

Bikes, helmets and locks available in kid and adult sizes -- and the first 2 hours are free, or $10 for all day.

GOLDEN, CO – Golden is hoping tourists and locals will get out of their cars and bike all around town to enjoy the city's restaurants, museums and mountain trails.

The Golden Bike Libraryis outrageously cheap – rides under two hours are free, while daily rentals are only $10. The library, at the central Golden Visitors Center, 1010 Washington Ave., has bikes of varying sized from kid to adult, and even some multiple gear mountain bikes. Bikes come with a helmet, lock and key.

Riders get a Golden Ticket for coupons and deals around town, and a reusable water bottle. You can also get a pass for the Golden Circulator Bus, if you choose to take your bike on public transportation.

Maps are available, but you can also use the Way to Go app to find the best bike paths and pedestrian-friendly routes in just minutes.

Riders must sign a waiver and kids under 18 must have a parent signature. A valid ID and credit card are required.

The project is funded by a grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation and clears cars off the streets, while giving families, visitors and residents a way to get some exercise and enjoy the town.
