Golden Man Arrested In Connection With Bike Shop Burglaries

Two men —one from Golden and another from Denver — are accused of stealing more than $60,000 worth of bicycles and bicycle parts, Boulder police said.

Richard Hickman, 32, and Kevin Kucharski, 36, were arrested Sunday with help from the Golden and Louisville police departments, officials said.

The investigation began in Boulder after two men burglarized the Trek Bicycle shop, at 2626 Baseline Rd, on Nov. 16, Boulder police said. Then CycleWorx, at 5360 Arapahoe Ave., was burglarized Nov. 21.

Investigators searched Hickman and Kucharski's homes in Golden and Denver and found bikes, bike parts, burglary tools, methamphetamine and two guns, one of which was stolen, according to the Boulder Police Department.

"These two suspects were identified and arrested because of numerous hours of detailed investigative work by detectives and the great partnerships we have with our fellow law enforcement agencies, specifically Louisville and Golden Police departments," said Maris Herold, Boulder police chief.

"This remains an active and ongoing investigation into dismantling organized, metro-area bike theft rings."
