JeffCo Sheriff To Lose $6.7M In 2020 Budget: Report
A multimillion-dollar budget cut could reduce the Jefferson County Sheriff Office's jail capacity, among other shortfalls.
JEFFERSON COUNTY, CO — The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office could lose a fair chunk of its budget for 2020, according to media reports. KMGH-TV Denver7 reported Tuesday that the sheriff was told in early April of the decrease.
The proposed $6.7 million cut is 7 percent of the office's current budget, the TV station said.
Sheriff Jeff Shrader said the budget cut could reduce his department's jail capacity from 1,000 to 600 beds, Denver7 reported, and the office would lose $1.8 million from a contract with the U.S. Marshals Service for jail beds.
