Start Your Golden Spring Garden With Xeriscape Plants

The City of Golden offers discounts to residents who purchase the water-saving Garden in a Box kit.

GOLDEN, CO -- The average U.S. suburban yard uses about 70,000 gallons of water for irrigating. Xeriscape "water-wise" landscaping yards can get that number down by 90 percent to 7,000 gallons or less, according to Resource Central.

The City of Golden and Resource Central are teaming up to offer plants for water-conserving gardens through the purchase of a Garden In A Box kit. As a City of Golden water customer, residents are eligible for a $25 discount while supplies last.

Kits include around 30 xeric perennial plants that save water and create a colorful Colorado landscape. There are plants that attract butterflies, honey bees or humming birds in full-sun and partial-shade varieties.
