Last Chance To Visit Heritage Amusement Park In Golden

DEAL ALERT: Kid-friendly amusement park on Magic Mountain offers $55 Farewell-4-Pack pass for your last nostalgic visit.

GOLDEN, CO – The final day for mini-kiddy fun at Golden's Heritage Amusement Park will be this Saturday, after a 20 year run on Magic Mountain. The amusement park posted a farewell on its Facebook page last week, and has offered a special $55 family "Farewell 4-Pack" coupon (must be printed) for the park's final days.

"It is now time to say a fond farewell to our home of almost two decades," the amusement park's page said. "We are so grateful to our customers, employees, family & friends who have made the experience of running this Amusement Park so rewarding."

The amusement park features a zip line and some old-fashioned rides such as the Tilt-A-Whirl, Swing, Go-Cart tracks and mini-golf. As one Facebook poster lamented, "This was one place the smaller aged kids could go and have a great time and ride almost every ride." Others remembered first teen jobs at the "Alpine Slide" and Spider Mansion.

The first Magic Mountain was started as an amusement park in the 1950s. When that went bust, the property was opened as a quasi-tourist trap called the Heritage Square village with an opera house, restaurants and shops. The property was purchased in 2011 by neighboring Martin Marietta Materials, who have been expanding their asphalt quarry operations and gradually tore down the original Heritage Square structures.

The park announced that they had "reached a settlement" with Martin Marietta and will be closing the facilities.

"After 20 years in business, it is with both sadness and excitement that we announce Heritage Amusement Park and the Garden Grill will permanently close its doors."

Martin Marietta did not immediately return calls for comment, but property manager Peter Bovis told Westword reporter Kera Morris “At this time, a final determination for the next stage for the former Heritage Square site has not been made.”
