ARAPAHOE COUNTY, CO — Arapahoe County aims to save money and resources by sending postcards to some property taxpayers, officials said.

If you paid your property taxes through an escrow account in 2020, you will not receive a full tax statement this year, the county said. A significant portion of residential property taxes are paid by property owners who make payments into an escrow account, usually to their mortgage company, which then forwards the amount of tax due to the treasurer.

Those taxpayers will no longer receive a full tax statement in the mail, officials said. Instead, they will receive a postcard from the Arapahoe County Treasurer. The card will contain most of the basic information from the tax statement, including the total amount of tax on the property and a breakdown of the taxes by taxing districts, the county said.

“Sending a tax statement, complete with payment vouchers and a return envelope, to taxpayers who will not use them, is a waste of resources,” said Sue Sandstrom, Arapahoe County Treasurer. “Sending a postcard instead of a statement will save paper, printing and postage costs.”
