Chatfield State Park Swim Beach Closed Due To E. Coli

The swim beach at Chatfield State Park has closed temporarily due to E. coli, wildlife officials announced Tuesday.

"Additional testing is being administered with further results expected in 24 hours," Colorado Parks and Wildlife said in a tweet posted Tuesday morning.

High E. coli levels can increase the risk of infections for swimmers, and if the water is ingested, it can cause vomiting and diarrhea, health officials said.

Higher levels of the bacteria in waterways is often caused by elevated levels of fecal matter.
