City Of Littleton Snow Removal: Priorities, Policies, Map

LITTLETON, CO — The city of Littleton's Public Works Department has been busy clearing snow off roadways after the historic snowstorm hit over the weekend.

Some parts of Littleton got more than 15 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

For pedestrians' safety, residents and businesses are required to remove snow from sidewalks and other public right-of-ways on their property — including RTD bus stops — 24 hours after a snowfall has ended.

The city's goal is to clear Priority 1 streets first, and when they are considered passable, crews begin plowing and de-icing Priority 2 streets.

If Littleton receives more than 6 inches of snow — which is of course the case with the storm that hit over the weekend — crews will plow down the center of residential streets when all Priority 1 and Priority 2 streets are clear.

• Seven snowplows/sanders and one reserve truck;
• A large motor grader, one front-end loader and two backhoes for cutting ice and significant snow accumulations;
• GPS navigation systems in all trucks to assist drivers on Priority 1 and Priority 2 routes;
• 2,000 tons of Ice Slicer, 10,000 gallons of magnesium chloride;
• 16 operators trained and available 24/7 for snow call-outs;
• Nine employees from the Littleton's Grounds Division for clearing city-owned sidewalks and parking lots.

The Colorado Department of Transportation manages snow and ice control on Santa Fe Drive, Belleview Avenue (east of Federal Boulevard), Platte Canyon Road and C-470.
