Thursday, Nov. 2 Women of Abstract Expressionism: Dr. Gwen Chanzit -

Dr. Gwen Chanzit will present a lecture titled "Women of Abstract Expressionism" on Thursday, November 2 at 7 p. m. at Littleton Museum.
Last year, Gwen Chanzit curated the first full-scale museum exhibition to celebrate the contributions of women painters of the Abstract Expressionist movement. Because the history of Abstract Expressionism has always centered on the machismo attitude of male artists like Jackson Pollock and Willem De Kooning, female artists have largely been ignored. Women of Abstract Expressionism received overwhelming attention internationally; Dr. Chanzit was even invited to talk on this topic at the Royal Academy, London. Using images of works shown in the recent Denver Art Museum exhibition, Dr. Chanzit will discuss Abstract Expressionism as an art movement and the female artists whose paintings were shown together for the first time.
