LITTLETON, CO — A fundraiser has been launched for a Littleton family who is mourning the loss of a 12-year-old boy who was struck and killed while he rode his bike Friday.
The victim's family identified him as Sean Stephenson. He was riding north on West Chatfield Avenue and crossing the street at the intersection of West Ken Caryl, when he was struck by a Nissan Xterra, according to Colorado State Patrol.
The driver of the vehicle, a 50-year-old woman, stayed at the intersection after the boy was hit and wasn't cited, Colorado State Patrol said. An 18-year-old passenger was also in the vehicle.

The 12-year-old wasn't wearing a helmet, was wearing headphones, and went against the walk signal, CSP said. But his mother said the coroner told her a helmet wouldn't have saved her son, Fox 31 reported.
His mother went looking for her son after he didn't come home in time for dinner, and she saw him covered in a white sheet, surrounded by emergency vehicles, according to the report.
