Littleton City Council Fills Vacancy After Karina Elrod Resigns

LITTLETON, CO — The Littleton City Council selected Tuesday a longtime city resident to fill a vacancy on the council after the resignation of Karina Elrod.

Mark Rudnicki, a licensed architect who served on the Littleton Planning Commission for 19 years, will fill the remainder of the At-Large term, which expires in November.

"I'm humbled to serve out the term of someone I really admire," Rudnicki said in a statement. "I appreciate the council allowing me the chance to continue to serve the community. I'm happy to be able to help finish the work on the Unified Land Use Code."

Elrod announced she was stepping down in early May after she and her family decided to move to Europe.

"I am extremely grateful to our citizens, business community, fellow council members and city staff, having entrusted me in this role for the past 3 1/2 years," Elrod said in a statement after the announcement.

Mayor Jerry Valdes expressed his appreciation to each of the eight people who interviewed for the position.

"The council was very impressed with the quality of the candidates," Valdes said in a statement. "There are not enough good things to say about them."

Rudnicki served on the Littleton Planning Commission for 19 years — four as chair and four as chair pro tem. He's been an active member and president of the Aberdeen Village Improvement Association for 23 years. Rudnicki has worked in the architecture industry for more than 47 years, and he and his wife Alicia have lived in Littleton since 1993. In his spare time, he enjoys vegetable gardening, hiking, and collecting and repairing antique clocks.
