Littleton Snowstorm Preparation: What To Know

Here's information about how Littleton is preparing for the winter storm.

LITTLETON, CO — The city of Littleton released its plans for winter storm preparations Friday.

City officials are reminding residents to stay off the roads as much as possible as a winter storm warning remains in effect for many Colorado regions, including Denver's west metro area.

Bemis Public Library and the Littleton Museum will not open Saturday, Littleton City Manager Mark Relph announced Friday.

"The Littleton Police and Public Works staff are ready to manage the snow’s impact on the community by reviewing weather forecasts and aligning resources to react even before snow arrives," the city said in a news release.

  • Chains have been purchased for police vehicles and have been installed on two vehicles in case they are needed.
  • Plows will start at midnight Friday and crews will work in 12-hour shifts, officials said.
  • Plows are ready to assist police in getting to locations if needed, the city said.
  • City agencies will coordinate resources with the Arapahoe County Emergency Operations Center if needed.
  • The city has plans in place to make sure police employees can get to work if they need assistance.
  • Reminders were sent to police personnel to make sure they check all their winter gear, with reminders of extra gear they might need.
  • The city worked with commanders to make sure there is command coverage all weekend, officials said.
  • The city made arrangements for Littleton police and public works staff to have a place to sleep in case they cannot get home after shifts.

The city said it has the following equipment loaded and ready:

  • 5 tandem axle trucks with plows and sanders
  • 1 tandem axle with Mag Chloride dispenser and plow
  • 3 single axle trucks with plows and sanders
  • 2 ¾ ton pickups with plows
  • 1 1-ton dump truck plow
  • 1 frontend loader
  • 2 backhoes
  • 1 motor grader with snowplow
  • 1 skid steer with snow blower

Crews will prepare roads with magnesium chloride and sand areas that are likely to see early freezing, then deploy plows as the snow ramps up, the city said.

Members of the city's executive team will meet virtually over the weekend to monitor conditions and decide Sunday whether city facilities will open Monday, officials said.
