Paint & Sip, Featured On Shark Tank, To Open In Greenwood Village

A Greenwood Village couple is opening Colorado's first Wine & Design studio.

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, CO — A new paint and sip studio franchise that was featured on"Shark Tank" is set to open its doors at the end of August in Greenwood Village.

Greenwood Village residents Erica and Charles McKiever are opening Wine & Design, a studio that will be open to people of all ages. The couple will hold a soft opening for their new business Aug. 23 and a grand opening Aug. 30.

While looking into franchises, Erica McKiever found that Wine & Design’s model and creative offerings were a good match for both her husband’s background in business and her master's degree in art therapy. A licensed professional counselor by trade, she's used art therapy through her work.

"This was really an opportunity for me to get back to my roots of art, and just really get in touch with art as therapy — I just love the idea of people painting, especially when they don't get to do that every day," she said.

"Painting or art in general is very cathartic for people. I think most people have heard or feel that art is a means of expression, and so for me as a trained art therapist, I really believe strongly that just doing art is a way of feeling good about yourself, doing something productive, producing something that is your own — I find that to be very important for people of all ages."

As parents of three children, the McKievers also plan to offer options for the under-21 crowd with Wine & Design's Art Buzz Kids, which offers in-studio camps, kid’s painting classes and other after-school activities.

In the Season 8 finale of "Shark Tank," husband and wife team Patrick and Harriet Mills from Raleigh, North Carolina pitched their Wine & Design franchise. The pitch became unforgettable when the Mills' brought in a nude male model who dropped his robe in front of the sharks. Shark Kevin O'Leary offered the Mills' $500,000, with $350,000 as a line of credit at 12 percent interest.

Charles McKiever said one of the deciding factors for opening a franchise in Greenwood Village is that it would be Colorado's first Wine & Design location.

"We live in Greenwood Village, we like the city, and we feel the location we've selected will serve us well in terms of the performance of the business."
