Thursday Pollution Forecast For Front Range

Public health officials have released a pollution forecast for Denver's metro area and Boulder County.

Another action day alert for pollution has been issued for the Front Range.

Fine particulate matter concentrations are expected to be in the 'moderate' to 'unhealthy for sensitive groups' categories Thursday, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

"People with heart or lung disease, older adults, and children should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion until noon on Thursday," the agency said in an air quality advisory.

"For the remainder of the Front Range region, including Ft. Collins, Greeley, Colorado Springs, and surrounding areas, moderate concentrations of fine particulates are expected, and unusually sensitive people should consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion on Thursday."

Visibility along the Front Range is expected to be in the 'poor' category Thursday morning, public health officials said.

"Concentrations of fine particulates are expected to decrease Thursday afternoon with the arrival of breezy and unsettled weather conditions," the advisory said.

Ozone concentrations in metro Denver and Boulder County are expected to be in the 'good' category.

Carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide levels will remain in the 'good' category on Thursday, health officials said.
