Unicorn Festival: Fairyland Comes To Littleton

Princess selfies, belly dancing, cosplay contests and fuzzy rainbow unicorn pony rides come to Littleton Saturday.

LITTLETON, CO – Who doesn't want a selfie with a mermaid, or to ride a unicorn in a corral? Littleton's 2nd annual Unicorn Fest at Clement Park, 7306 W Bowles Ave. runs Saturday, June 23 but is almost sold out, organizer Dana Cain said.

"Last year, we were expecting about 4,000 people, but 9,000 came – and they all came in the morning." Cain said. Better to come after 2:30 p.m. and plan to stay until the fest closes at 6 p.m. she said.

Billed as "a magical event for families, cosplayers and everyone who loves imagination and fun," the festival has exponentially more attractions, such as five unicorn corrals to ride a furry pony with a horn – instead of one. The fest also includes inflatables, face painters, a Hogwarts-style "sorting hat" tent, a mermaid lagoon a 66-ft Dragon slide and obstacle course and entertainment, all in rainbow florescent colors that resemble a Lisa Frank image come to life.

"We invited Lisa Frank, but she hasn't responded," Cain said. "Maybe next year."

Even better, the festival will have an appearance by children's author Stephen Cosgrove, author of the princess book "Morgan and Me" about a time-management guru in the form of a pet unicorn.

A longtime pillar of the quirky creative arts scene in Denver, Cain and Michele Baldwin came up with the festival's idea in December of 2016 and it's taken off from there, she said.
