Voices West Wins $4,000 Colorado Arts Grant

The chorus of the Colorado Front Range will perform Song of Democracy in honor of the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI.

LITTLETON, CO – Littleton-based Voices West is once again the recipient of funding from the Colorado Creative Industries' Colorado Creates grant, the agency announced.

The "Chorus of the Colorado Front Range" received $4,000 as part of the agency's $699,000 in grant funds doled out to 93 different arts agencies in 25 counties.

Funding this year will help with general operating expenses, said director Bonita Lahey in an email.

Voices West's season begins next week with a concert marking the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I. Voices West and Colorado Wind Ensemble will collaborate with a mini-concert followed by Howard Hanson's stirring Song of Democracy (with text by poet Walt Whitman) which will serve as the finale for this rousing and patriotic occasion. Performances take place Friday, Oct. 12 at Denver at the Central Presbyterian Church and Saturday, Oct. 13 at Littleton United Methodist Church.

Colorado Creative Industries is a division of the state's Office of Economic Development & International Trade.

“The state is experiencing healthy growth in the creative economy, due in large part to combined state, local and regional efforts to advance support for artists, nonprofit arts organizations and creative place making efforts,” said director of Colorado Creative Industries Margaret Hunt in a statement. “We applaud the talented and hard-working groups that contribute to our state’s vibrant economy and, just as importantly, to our amazing quality of life. We are glad to support their work with the Colorado Creates grants each year.”

Colorado Creates is the agency's largest grant program, providing "critical financial support" for nonprofit cultural institutions. The agency supports arts programs all over the state, with 40 percent of grant funds were awarded in communities located outside the Denver metro area.
