Avon High School Athletic Lighting Project Update

Town staff are working with the neighbors on Sudbury Way and West Avon Road to develop a plan for additional landscaped buffering.

April 1, 2021

The poles for the athletic lights were installed on March 1st and 2nd. On March 19th, Frontier Communications replaced the existing utility pole that feeds the site and Eversource is currently scheduling a date to upgrade the electrical service at the street. Wiring and electrical work, as well as the installation of four pedestrian walkway lights along the entrance to the track and field facility will follow. Town staff are also working with the neighbors on Sudbury Way and West Avon Road to develop a plan for additional landscaped buffering on the site. This plan is still in development and staff anticipate presenting a recommendation to the Town Council in the coming months. An additional appropriation will be required to fund the buffering project. In preparation for this work, Public Works staff have been spreading some fill on the south end of the site in order to extend the elevation of the track. This work will allow the area to accommodate plantings and will improve the buffering capability of the landscaping plan.
