Avon Obituary: Barbara Holtkamp, 82

Barbara Ann (Carr) Holtkamp, 82, of Avon died Sunday, August 5th, 2018 surrounded by her family and friends.

Born December 15, 1936 in Yonkers, New York, she moved to Newington in 1950 and attended Newington High School and Hartt School of Music (U. of Hartford). She was the daughter of Joseph Carr and Agnes (Kampa) Carr of Yonkers, NY.

Barbara was predeceased by her brother Warren in 1990. Besides her husband of 56 years, Tido H. Holtkamp, she is survived by her sons Tido J. Holtkamp of Simsbury and Richard T. Holtkamp of Bedford, New Hampshire, and his wife Barbara.

Barbara always had a great love for music whether it was a concert, the opera, or Willie Nelson singing “On the Road Again”, which she often hummed on her way out the door to go on one of her adventurous shopping sprees with a friend or two.

After college, she was employed by the Olivette Corporation where she was very well liked and made many friends. After marrying the love of her life, Tido, she retired from the routine work schedule and became a devout wife and mother.

She belonged to the Simsbury Women’s Club as well as many other community organizations and devoted time and energy to visiting the sick and elderly. Her best efforts and enthusiasm for her Bridge Club meetings were appreciated by her many friends. She enjoyed cooking and entertained friends and family in her home with a “fantastic new recipe” and would wait anxiously for everyone’s reaction to it.

She will be dearly missed for her ready smile, a comforting word in time of need, and all the thoughtful kindnesses she showed to her many friends which were echoed during her illness by the many calls, cards, and personal visits she received.

Her family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at the UConn Health Center for their never-ending, compassionate service and care to Barbara during her illness.

Barbara’s family will receive friends on Friday, August 10th from 6-8 PM at the Carmon Funeral Home & Family Center, 301 Country Club Road, Avon. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 11th at 10:30 AM directly at Saint Matthew Lutheran Church, 224 Lovely Street, Avon.
