Avon Residents Urged To Respond To The Census Before The Sept. 30 Deadline
Those who have not responded online or via the phone will be visited by a census taker at their home.
September 17, 2020
Spread the Word! Time is running out to respond to the Census. Visit www.2020census.gov or call 844-330-2020 to submit your response. If you have not submitted a response to date, please be aware that you may be visited by a census taker at home. If a census taker comes to your door, they can be easily identified by a valid government ID badge with their photograph, a U.S. Department of Commerce watermark, and an expiration date on the badge. To confirm a census taker’s identity, the public may contact the New York Regional Census Center at 212-882-7100 to speak with a Census Bureau representative. If you determine that the person who came to your door is not from the Census Bureau, please contact the Avon Police Department immediately. Remember, the Census Bureau will never ask for your social security number, your bank account or credit card numbers, or money or donations. Census takers are required to wear a mask while conducting their field work and will follow CDC and local public health guidelines. Census takers are hired from local communities and all speak English (many are bilingual). If a census taker does not speak the householder's language, the household may request a return visit from a census taker who does. If no one is home when the census taker visits, they will leave a notice with information about how to respond online, by phone or by mail. Remember, Census results are used to reapportion the House of Representatives and to distribute more than $675 billion in federal aid annually so it is critically important for all Avon residents to cooperate with Census takers to ensure that everyone who was living in their household as of April 1, 2020 is counted. Be well and be counted!
