The Avon branch of the Veterans of Foreign Wars received more awards than any other branch in Connecticut.

AVON, CT - From the desk of the Veterans of Foreign Wars: At the 97th Annual Convention of the Department of Connecticut, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States in Rocky Hill in June, the Gildo T. Consolini VFW Post 3272, Avon, CT received the most awards of any Post in Connecticut for 2016! At the banquet event, the Past Commander in Chief of the VFW from 1998-1999, Thomas Pouliot, of Helena, MT was the special guest and he applauded the success of Avon’s Post 3272 stating the members “exemplify just what a VFW Post should be doing.” Pictured here with Past Commander in Chief Pouliot is Lee Wilson, Avon’s Past Post Commander and Chair of the Post’s Buddy Poppy Drive with a copy of CHECKPOINT, a national VFW magazine.

It contains a story of the success the Avon Post has with their Drive and how it serves so many veterans in Connecticut. Other awards the Avon Post received that day were First Place for Most Poppies Purchased, First Place for Post Publication (the newsletter), Second Place for Community Activities and Second Place for Safety. The Avon Post also received a Certificate of Appreciation for a generous donation to the VFW National Home for Children in Michigan.
