Avon Village Center Project Update
Construction of the first five buildings constituting Phase 1A, is continuing at this time.

Information via Town of Avon
AVON, CT — Construction of the first five buildings constituting Phase 1A, is continuing at this time. The buildings on the west side of Climax Road (R1 and R2) are moving along well. Discussions between staff and the developer regarding walkability are ongoing, particularly regarding public walkways, surface materials, and layout. For example, crosswalks are being provided between Whole Foods and R1 and R2. A four-way stop intersection and crosswalks have also been installed in this area.
You will notice that the new public roads and the Town’s first roundabout have opened following much coordination with the State DOT and the traffic signal consultant. The roundabout, as well as the road design, serve to slow traffic down, while allowing all emergency vehicles to pass safely through this area. This design serves to address one of the major public concerns that came to light during the project design phase: that Bickford Drive and Climax Road would serve as a “shortcut” from Simsbury Road to Route 44 westbound. Drivers should continue to use caution while traversing this area and adjusting to the new traffic pattern.
The area at the east end of Market Street near the new tower structure is coming together. The tower, boulder garden and the rest area adjacent to the trail are being completed at this time. This area will provide bicyclists and other trail users with an area to rest and relax. The public will also have access to public restrooms in building R8, in the same area. Additionally, the majority of Phase 1A, as well as the roundabout, has been landscaped. Town staff performs frequent checks to ensure the quality of the landscaping and its conformance with the approved plans.
Finally, while Whole Foods has not yet opened to the public (for reasons unknown to the Town), smaller tenants are beginning to come forward to lease some of the available retail spaces. We anticipate that these stores will open as soon as the roads and sidewalks are finished so as to provide safe public access and parking. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to call the Department of Planning and Community Development at (860) 409-4328.
