A full month of July classes have been designed to turn the computer into your best friend, courtesy of Avon Library. From social media to photos to Word documents, these classes have something to offer beginners and the more experienced Avon resident.

Learn the most important facts before buying a printer! Presented by Staples on RT 44 in Avon.

Wednesday, July 9: Keyboard Crash Course (3:30 pm)

In this course, people will be exposed to complex typing techniques. After the "Basic Computer Navigation" class, they should be familiar with how to type. This will bring in the more complex ways to type such as setting your fingers on the home keys (F and J), as well as what some of the more complicated keys do. Do you know what number lock does?

Wednesday, July 9 The ABCs of Photo Organizing and Preserving Memories (2:00 pm)

Almost overnight negatives and film were replaced with digital cameras and we gained the ability to snap hundreds of photos in an instant. Most of us have quickly become overwhelmed with the sheer number of photos we take and find that the images linger on our cameras, computers and phones as well as taking up more than their fair share of memory along with them! In addition, the pictures that we do manage to print and all of those printed prior to the digital camera era, are usually still in boxes, bins and bags.

Organizing photos can be an intimidating and time-consuming task and one we tend to think can only be done by us alone, however most of us long to someday “tackle” this task because it is so worthwhile to preserve memories and have the ability to share them with others.

Wednesday, July 23: Useful Communication Services (e.g. Email) and -How To Connect To Family Members Via Social Media (3:30 pm)

This class will allow us to set up Gmail accounts, and then set up social media like Facebook to connect with family members that live far away.

Thursday, July 24: Intermediate Excel: Take your Excel skills to the next level. Learn about formulas and charts as well as a few other tricks of the trade.  THIS IS NOT AN INTRO COURSE!  (6:30 pm)
