Closures of Avon Road To Continue During Project
A local road will experience temporary closures during an ongoing project.

Information via Avon Volunteer Fire Department
AVON, CT - As reported in the April issue of the Town of Avon Newsletter, significant work has been completed on the Old Farms Road and bridge project. Passers-by in the past 4 months have seen tree clearing and removal of stumps and vegetation, earthwork, installation of coffer dams to hold back the river, pouring of concrete for footings, and a wide host of other activities. Over 20 utility poles either have been or will be moved to accommodate road widening for dedicated lanes.
In coming weeks and throughout the spring and summer months, drivers will experience changes in traffic patterns and temporary closures in the project area. Work is about to begin at the intersection of Old Farms Road and Waterville Road that will temporarily require realignment of the intersection and a change in the traffic patterns to accommodate access to . Drivers may experience delays while work progresses.

Additionally, a portion of Old Farms Road and Tillotson Road will be closed to thru traffic, with the exception of emergency vehicles, for a period of two weeks in July 2019 for the purpose of completing a full reconstruction of the Old Farms Road/Tillotson Road intersection. The DOT and the Town determined that this closure would be preferable to keeping the road only partially open, with numerous changes to traffic patterns, for a period of six months in order to complete the same portion of work. The specific area of the closure will begin on Old Farms Road, 250 feet west of the intersection with Tillotson Road, heading east and ending just west of the entrance to Fisher Meadows. Tillotson Road will be closed from the intersection with Old Farms Road, heading south approximately 236 feet. The trail head located on Tillotson will still be accessible to the public via Town Farm Road in Farmington.
The Town continues to coordinate very closely with the DOT on this project and will post updates on the Engineering Department’s “Projects” page on the Town’s website www.avonct.gov as they become available.
