Coronavirus Cases Lead To Avon Schools Going Remote: Report

After a social gathering over Thanksgiving break in Avon, schools went fully remote for two weeks.

AVON, CT — A gathering over Thanksgiving break has led to Avon Public Schools being closed for two weeks, according to NBC CT. Someone at a social gathering of high school students was unknowingly infected with coronavirus.

The spread to other students quickly became clear when several started showing symptoms and testing positive.

Contact tracers later found that there are potential contacts to these cases across all of the district's schools. There are several "clusters" of confirmed cases.

A health district official told NBC CT that even a small gathering can result in multiple cases. This is because every person has four to ten close contacts who could also potentially contract the virus.

Remote learning in Avon began Thursday and will continue to Dec. 14.
