Farmington Valley Native Sawicki Musically Directs National 'Evita' Tour and Other News!

Happy Thursday, Avon! 

Great news from Leslie Imse, choral director at Farmington High School. Farmington Valley's David Sawicki is the associate music director and conductor for the First National Tour of the Broadway Revival of Evita. 

Sawicki was a freshman at Farmington High School when I was a senior and was very involved in the high school's music program as a clarinet player, pianist and singer. He continued studying music at Harvard.
Now Sawicki has co-founded Opera Brittenica, a new Boston musical organization "devoted to exploring and performing the varied works of Benjamin Britten," according to an community board Imse posted on Patch.

Rosh Hashanah continues and Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation-Emek Shalom is hosting a Rosh Hashanah Birthday Party for children and their families. It starts at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at 55 Bushy Hill Rd. in Simsbury.

In honor of Rosh Hashanah, there is no school in Avon on Thursday, Sept. 5. There is no school on Monday either as the teachers have their convocation and an in-service day, according to the school calendar. 

The Farmington Valley VNA is offering free blood pressure screenings at the Avon Free Public Library. 

Connecticut Water recently got approval to lower its rates for customers.
