Hey there, Avon!
How's everyone's summer going? Did you go on any fun vacations? I asked a Myrtle Beach native during my vacation what it's like to be a local there. Then I was wondering what kind of hyper local stories Patch would cover there. (Shark in the pond!) On the flip side, how would you answer that question if a tourist asked you that about living in Avon? Discuss in the comments!
Have you watched all of the episodes of the new Arrested Development season yet on Netflix? Me too. Now what? I'm giving Mad Men a second shot. Fun fact. Mad Men may be set primarily in New York, but there is a Farmington Valley connection. Michael Gladis, who plays ad man Paul Kinsey, grew up in Farmington and is the brother of WNPR radio personality Chion Wolf. Michael and Chion, if you're reading this, would you be interested in an interview? Call my work phone at 860-356-6339 or email me at Jessie.Sawyer@patch.com.
In other news, here are some highlights of what else is going on in Avon and the region:
- Gold Medalists: Congratulations to the Avon athletes on the CT Mission Baseball team for winning the Nutmeg games!
- 'The Bear' ate all the FroYo! Well, two gallons of it anyways. Competitive eater Jamie “THE BEAR” McDonald ate the TCBY frozen yogurt in 10 minutes and 43 seconds, apparently a world record! That's a lot of brain freeze. We wonder what flavors he chose. So many options at the West Simsbury TCBY in Avon Marketplace!
- Put on your sunscreen! Wednesday looks like another sunny day with temperatures reaching as high as 85 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

- What's trending on other Patch sites in Connecticut? Stonington Patch was there when British singer Ed Sheeran, accompanied by his brother as well as famed singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, entered an all-you-can-eat ice cream contest in Pawcatuck. Click here for the full story!
