Kingswood Oxford A cappella "Outlook" to open WHSO Fall Concert
Avon HS Senior, Elliott Davis, violin soloist performing Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto
Join the West Hartford Symphony Orchestra for an afternoon of classical music as it kicks off its 17th concert season. The concert will be held at 3pm on Sunday, October 28 at Kingswood Oxford School’s Roberts Theater. The concert will feature fabulous music by some of Russia’s most famous composers, including Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, and Shostakovich.
WHSO is thrilled to be returning to the stage for its 17th year of family-friendly classical and POPs music. The orchestra, composed entirely of volunteers, is made up of musicians of all ages and backgrounds, ranging from high school students to retirees. This year’s orchestra is composed of six local doctors, award-winning high school musicians, and a doctoral student from the University of Hartford Hartt School, just to mention a few of the diverse and talented musicians.
The orchestra is celebrating its special connection with the West Hartford community by opening each concert this season with a special performance by local soloists or school choirs. This concert will begin with the National Anthem performed by the musical choral group Outlook, an A capella group from The Kingswood Oxford School.

The concert will feature Tchaikovsky’s famous Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35. As part of the Young Artist Series, this piece will feature award-winning high school musician Elliott Davis as the solo violinist in this moving piece of classical music. The Orchestra’s Young Artist Series is a celebration of the area’s many talented young musicians and the orchestra’s unique collaboration between generations.
Another featured piece of music will be Prokofiev’s Lieutenant Kije. Prokofiev composed the score in 1933 to accompany a satirical film by the same name. The music tells the story of the fictional Russian Lieutenant Kije. The piece’s five movements chronicle Kije’s life, from his birth to his first love, his wedding, and a thrilling winter sleigh ride, before ending with his death and burial.
