Mass. Man Sentenced In Avon Sex Assault Case
A man who sexually assaulted a woman while she ran along a local trail has been sentenced to prison.

AVON, CT - A Massachusetts man will serve seven years in prison and be on special parole for ten years after his release for committing sexual assault three years ago, according to the Hartford Courant. Luis Ortiz, 32, of Chicopee, pleaded guilty in November to first-degree sexual assault charges.
The victim was running along the Farmington Canal Hertiage Trail in Avon when Ortiz attacked her in 2015. To sign up for free Avon news alerts and more, click here.
Ortiz also pleaded guilty to second-degree unlawful restraint and third-degree assault. Ortiz was a driver for a portable toilet company at the time. He allegedly stopped his truck by the trail and assaulted the woman.

The prosecutor in the case said she was convinced that Ortiz was intending to kill the victim in the attack, but that the woman fought back. Evidence of this was presented through the sexual assault evidence collection examination, the Courant reported.
