Obituary: Janice Niehaus, 86, Of Avon

AVON, CT - Janice Levsen Niehaus, 86, of Avon, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, December 19, 2018. Born in Anamosa, Iowa, on October 7, 1932, the daughter of the late Marvin C. and Helen (Roehlk) Levsen. Janice was raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa in Iowa City where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. She lived in West Hartford for 29 years prior to moving to Avon where she has lived for the past 32 years. Janice and her family also spent many years living in Sydney, Australia beginning in the early 1970’s and again in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. She was very active in volunteer work, especially many arts and historic groups including; Hartford Stage Co., Mark Twain House, Noah Webster House, Meals on Wheels and Ct. Ala Carte. She was also a longtime member of the Town & County Club. She was a huge fan of the UConn women’s basketball team and a proud member of the Senior Cheerleaders with whom she was able to attend many Final Fours.

She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, M.S. (Steve) Niehaus Jr.; she is survived by Jonathan Standish her loving companion for the past 13 years and her two sons; Craig S. Niehaus and his wife Susan M. Spring of Delray Beach, Florida and Jeffrey D. Niehaus of West Hartford; and her grandchildren; Kimberly S. Niehaus, Diana M. Niehaus, Todd A. Spring and Christin M. Spring.

A memorial service luncheon to celebrate her life will take place at the Town & County Club, 22 Woodland St, Hartford, CT 06105 on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Janice’s memory may be made to the Lyman Fund of Town & County Club, 22 Woodland St., Hartford, CT 06105 or Hartford Stage Co., 50 Church St, Hartford, CT 06103 or a Charity of one’s choice.
