AVON, CT — Old Farms Road Bridge over the Farmington River is now open providing safer access to and from Waterville Road (Route 10). The contractor, ROTHA, has substantially completed the bridge structure, guide rails and approaching roadways 5 months earlier than originally scheduled – and just in time to make the roadway safer for winter travel. Work on the project continues as weather allows and motorists will see significant work on Waterville Road as well as the demolition of the old bridge and construction of the car-top boat launch and parking area in 2020. To facilitate this work, and improve the schedule, there have been discussions regarding the possibility of closing Old Farms Road in the area for short periods over the April school break and in July. More information will be provided in advance of these closures if they become necessary.
