Rapid Flashing Beacons To Be Installed At Four Trail Crossing Locations In Avon

The beacons will be pedestrian-activated and solar-powered.

This spring, the Town of Avon plans to install pedestrian-activated, solar-powered Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) at four Farmington Valley Greenway trail crossings. The beacons are intended to alert drivers to their proximity to the trail and to the presence of pedestrians, bicyclists and other users crossing the road. RRFBs will be placed in the following locations:

  • Country Club Road, 100 feet west of Hawley Hill Road
  • Scoville Road, 350 feet east of Cotswold Way
  • Thompson Road, 150 feet east of Harwood Lane
  • Darling Drive, 825 feet south of Route 44

A specifications sheet and a project location map can be found HERE. This project is being funded by the Connecticut DOT’s Community Connectivity Grant Program. Please contact the Town Manager’s Office at (860) 409-4300 with questions.
